Desmod_Introduction
Transform and evolve your imaginations into reality..!!
The challenge is to push your imagination to envision a product which can bring some refreshing changes out of this monotonicity of life. Also, the basic mechanisms and components working in perfect symphony transcend the concept to reality.
In this Shaastra, have fun designing new models, inventing new mechanisms, exploring various design tools within the domain of aesthetiques of the model.
TOTAL PRIZE MONEY : Rs. 20,000
Results to be announced on 12 September, 2009. Check out the Results Tab for the same.
InoX_Format
Format
The event comprises of two stages, design report
submission and modeling prototype during Shaastra. The event primarily aims to
check knowledge and skill at formulating ideas, conceptualizing design models
and modeling prototypes.
Prelims:
Participants have to design the product as per the
problem statement’s specifications and submit a report containing all necessary
details (isometric and projected view, mechanism analysis, structural
stability)
Format of the Solution:
- The
participants can choose to work on problems concerning any issue mentioned
in categorized problems. All problems carry equal weightage.
- A one
page write-up explaining the functional aspects of the design (in .doc or
.pdf formats only).
- Any
kind of modeling software can be used for creating the design. Hand drawn clean
sketches will also be accepted.
- The
views of the design should be submitted only in .jpeg or .jpg format.
- Participants
are expected to turn up in teams of maximum three members.
Finals:
The selected teams have to come to IIT Madras during
Shaastra for the finals. Teams qualifying for the finals will be notified
before hand by email.
Participants will get a chance to
familiarize themselves with the particular modeling software (Preferably
AUTODESK Inventor) and then the participant's basic knowledge of the 3D modeling
environment and the software will be tested. The
teams are required to design their model in the software with the improvements
made.
- The
designs will be tested for their engineering content and elegance.
- Innovative
solutions will earn appreciation!
The teams should also prepare a presentation
explaining details of their design and its features and each team will be given
15 minutes to present their design to the judges.
To register for the event, participants must register
for team event in the user portal. Registrations for the event will be put up
shortly. For accommodation, participants will need to register separately with
hospitality.
IMPORTANT
DATES:
Final Date
for the submission of the model: 5th September’09.

InoX_FAQ
You need to register for the event online before the submission of your entries.
Do I have to specify details about the internal working of the product?
No, you just have to design the exteriors of the product according to the specifications given in the problem statements. Some technical details will be needed for proper functional mapping.
What are the judging criteria?
Judging will primarily be done on the basis of report of analysis, workability, aesthetics and ergonomics of the design. Additional points will be awarded for creativity.
Do I have to make any physical models?
No. You need not make any physical models. You would have to model and present your solution on the given 3D modeling software.
Do I need to know any modeling softwares?
Yes. You need to have familiarity with 3D modeling environment, but the knowledge of the particular 3D modeling software being used is not expected. Before the prelims, there will be a session to familiarize the participants with the software being used.
