Humanoid Robot
Fascinated by Sonny in I,Robot? Or C-3PO in Star Wars and Data in Star Trek? Enthralled by the NUS show at Shaastra Nights 2008?
IIT Madras presents before you our very own humanoid robot, our first step towards our own T-800 with the Humanoid Robot SOE
The
humanoid robot, built in IIT Madras's Centre for Innovation, is a 20
degree of freedom bot, based on Robotis's AX-12 Dynamixel motors, used
by the popular Bioloid platform.
Humanoid
Robots are hot topics of engineering and research today. And there's
good reason for that. Legged robots can traverse terrain inaccessible
to wheeled robots. Bipedalism gives extra flexibiliy and frees up
resources (limbs) for other activities. With the Humanoid Robot SOE, we
attempt to imitate nature's finest creation - the human.
Our
vision is to make robots that can assist humans in their day to day
activities. Our robots should be able to work in a surrounding suited
for human inhabitation with maximum efficiency. We would want to
incorporate as many human abilities as possible in the robot to
facilitate this. This SOE is a small step in this direction.
